Comenserv was incorporated in the State of Ohio
1. to minister to the spiritual and
humanitarian needs of Muslims in various parts of the world.
2. to provide a bridge of understanding and communication between
Christians and Muslims.
3. to facilitate Christians and Muslims working together in various projects for education and
humanitarian relief.
We currently focus our work in three countries: Kosovo, Crimea, and America.
Kosovo
How we got started
In 1999 Serbian troops and paramilitary forces began a campaign of
ethnic cleansing, with the intent to remove or destroy the entire
Kosovar Albanian
population. Many fled
to Macedonia. Others fled to Albania.During the war we partnered
with another organization to provide food, blankets, and medical
assistance to refugees in the region of Durres, Albania. We also
helped establish a medical clinic there. After the war, we
continued to work in Albania among the poor of Durres who needed free
medical assistance. We also began to make short-term trips into
Kosovo. In the early days after the war
we helped Kosovars with various short-term projects, including medical
assistance
and house reconstruction.
What we do now
Today our emphasis is on education.
This includes-
1. Building up a collection of
books in the English and Albanian
languages to help elementary, high school and
university
students have
the resources they need for research and reading pleasure.
2. Assisting an English-speaking school in Kosovo with
books.
3. Helping teach courses in English and history at a
private high school.
4. Offering classes in English as a second language for
children. Some classes are free of charge, others are offered at
a reduced rate.
5. Providing a Kids Club that teaches in a fun way basic
values and morals, as well as providing a chance for children to make
small crafts, sing songs and play games.
6. Teaching music lessons.
7. Micro-publishing.
Crimea
Chuck and Karen have been working in Crimea among Tatar Muslims and the Ukrainian people since 1993. They have helped start a college and they continue to work to improve the education and health of the needy who live there. They're constructing a new building (photo at right) to facilitate these important projects.
America
In America, we focus our
work on Christian/Muslim relations.
We provide opportunities for Muslims and Christians to discuss freely with each other their own faith and how they perceive the other. We teach seminars and workshops for churches, conventions, colleges and civic groups to help people on both sides move beyond flawed stereotypes to a more balanced view of faith.
A number of Muslim men in America have married Christian women. Muslim Hope helps these couples work through areas of religious conflict, so that their families can be submissive to God’s will for their lives.
We also provide literature
to people who desire to know more about Islam and the Gospel and how to
discuss matters of faith in an understandable way. We have also
published a
Handbook on Islam for Christians Serving in the United States Armed
Forces. An electronic copy is available on this Internet
site. To request one
or multiple copies, please contact us by email. There is no
charge for these booklets.
